About

Hello! That’s me, Adriaan Fuchs, the author of On And Off The Record.

For the past couple of years, I’ve been a regular presenter of the specialist series Great Interpreters on Fine Music Radio. Following each broadcast, friends, colleagues and listeners would often ask me for a copy of the program, and so I decided to make them available as podcasts and to share them online. The result was On And Off The Record: my own tinkering space on the web and a content hub for my podcasts.

Each On And Off The Record podcast focuses on the life, career and artistry of a “great interpreter” – a musician, singer or composer from the world of classical music or Broadway, whose performances, recordings, interpretations and insights deserve to be heard long after those fleeting moments on stage.

I hope that On And Off The Record will provide you with as much joy and listening pleasure as it does me.

He went on to complete the degree MPhil cum laude, also at Stellenbosch University, on the recorded legacy of Maria Callas. His postgraduate research formed the basis of the acclaimed production Kollig op Callas that premiered in 2007 to standing ovations at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival.

Adriaan served as Director of the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival during 2006 and 2007, having previously held the position of Public Relations Officer for the festival since its inception, and also at the Department of Music at Stellenbosch University.

In 2010, he completed an MBA (cum laude) at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town, while fulfilling his role as Business Development Manager at Cape Town Opera.

Following a stint as the Account Director (Publisher) for VISI, a leading South African decor, design and architecture magazine, Adriaan worked as Director of Strategy at the Ogilvy Digital Marketing Academy, where he combined his business acumen with his interests in digital and social media and his passion for culture and the arts, helping to design and implement transformative educational experiences for Ogilvy staff and clients.

He regularly presents specialist radio progams on legendary performers from the world of classical music and Broadway. These programs are broadcast on Fine Music Radio, and are available for streaming or download on On And Off The Record or on iTunes.

Adriaan is the author of two books: The Art and the Passion (ISBN: 978-0-620-46039-2), which offers a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of Cape Town Opera‘s productions staged in Cape Town, Malmö and Cardiff during 2009 and 10: Celebrating Ten Years of the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival, 2004-2013 (ISBN: 978-0-620-57117-3), which documents the history of this prestigious chamber music festival, the largest of its kind in Africa.
